The Columbus Clippers won their third straight game Sunday with a 6-3 victory over the Iowa Cubs at Huntington Park Sunday. The Clippers, who took four of the six games played this week against the I-Cubs, only managed five hits on the afternoon, but two left the yard to to drive in four of their runs. Here are our three takeaways from Sunday’s series finale:

1.    The Clippers’ two home runs came off the bats of Ralphy Velazquez and Kahlil Watson. Velazquez leads the team with 22 long balls. Combined with his time at Akron earlier this season, he has 29 total. Watson’s three-run homer in the third inning, his 19th of the season, gave the Clippers the lead for good. His grand slam on Saturday provided the oomph for Columbus’s 10-5 win.

2.   Reliever Hunter Stanley (3-2) earned the win for the Clippers, going four innings without allowing an earned run on two hits and no walks while striking out three. The 28-year-old has appeared in 17 games for both Akron and Columbus in 2026 and has improved his numbers as the season has gone on. He has not yet seen time with Cleveland after being drafted by the Guardians out of Southern Mississippi in 2021.

3.   Kyle Manzardo continues to be productive for Columbus after being sent down by the Guardians on August 3. Manzardo last played for the Clippers in 2024 after which he played 297 games in Cleveland, including 102 this season. On Sunday, he was 2-for-2 at the plate as the Clippers’ designated hitter to move his average up to .313. In his 26 games with Columbus, he has hit five homers and driven in 28 runs.
