The Columbus Clippers rebounded from a Thursday loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers with a 6-2 victory at Huntington Park Friday. The Clippers combined timely hitting with solid pitching to take a 2-1 series lead. Here are our three takeaways from Friday’s action:

1.    David Fry has been impressive at the plate since being optioned to the Clippers by the Cleveland Guardians. In just six games with Columbus, he has hit five long balls and driven in 11 runs. His homer in the third inning Friday traveled 428 feet and had an exit velocity of 105.8 miles per hour. Wow. With the Guardians this season, he hit six home runs and recorded 13 RBIs in 71 games.

2.   Four pitchers took the mound for Columbus Friday. After suffering through two injury-riddled seasons with Cleveland and spending the beginning of this year once again on the injured list, Ben Lively made his first start for the Clippers. He tossed four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out three without giving up a walk. He was followed by Chris Brogdon, who picked up the win with a three-up, three-down fifth. The staff allowed only one walk and struck out eight.

3.   Cooper Ingle and Daniel Schneemann were the top two in the batting order for the Clippers and set the table for the rest of the lineup. Ingle has a batting average of .312 despite not getting a hit Friday. What he did do is walk three times and score a run. Schneemann also went without a base knock, but walked twice and scored both times he reached.
