The Columbus Clippers led 2-0 after a great performance by starter Logan Allen in the first six innings. The bullpen gave up four runs, two unearned, after Allen hit the showers. Fortunately for the faithful at Huntington Park, the Clippers scored three times in the bottom of the ninth to walk off with a 5-4 win. Here are our three takeaways from Tuesday’s comeback:

1.   So let’s talk about Logan Allen. For the second straight start, he was a machine on the mound. Last Wednesday in Omaha, he picked up his third win of the season, going 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out nine. On Tuesday, he went 5.2 innings without allowing a run on five hits and one walk and once again struck out nine. Impressive. OK, talk over.

2.   The Clippers got three runs across in the ninth with one out. Milan Tolentino walked on a 3-2 count. Petey Halpin, who had three hits on the night, then singled. Angel Genao walked on a 3-2 count to load the bases. Juan Brito singled to drive in two runs, followed by Ralphy Velazquez’s single down the left field line for the win. A productive half inning without trying to take one out of the park.

3.   Building on that theme, the Clippers’ ability to move the ball around the field was effective, especially in the crunch. We’ve railed in this space about the number of Ks suffered by Columbus batters this season. On this night, they only struck out four times compared to the 17 times that the Clippers’ hurlers recorded. Good starting pitching, getting the bat on the ball, and solid performance under pressure comprise an outstanding combination.

Columbus and Louisville are back on the field at Huntington Park Wednesday for the second game of their six-game series. RHP Justin Campbell (NR) makes his Triple-A debut for the Clippers. LHP Brandon Leibrandt (3-3, 4.55) takes the mound for Louisville.

Campbell is a story of perseverance. After being drafted 37th overall by Cleveland in 2022, the former Oklahoma State Cowboy did not play a professional inning until this season because of injuries. He has pitched for Lake County and Akron so far in 2026. In 15 starts, the 25-year-old has an ERA of 2.61. In 51.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 66 while walking 27. He has, unbelievably, allowed only one home run.
