The Columbus Clippers’ pitching staff did not allow an earned run Friday and the Clips won at Omaha 4-2 to even the series at two games apiece. Columbus broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth en route to the victory. Here are our three takeaways from Friday’s action:

1.    Three pitchers – Yorman Gómez, Trevor Stephan, and Trenton Denholm – got time on the mound for the Clippers. It was Gómez’s second Triple-A start and he had a great outing, not allowing a run on one hit and two walks in his 4.1 innings of work, while striking out six. Stephan got the Clips out of the fifth inning giving up one hit and a walk even though an error brought in two runs. Deholm went the rest of the way, ceding just one hit and striking out nine. Yep, nine.

2.   Every once in a while, you have to recognize a single at-bat that makes a huge difference. In the top of the eighth inning with the score tied at 2-2, the bases were loaded with one out. Kody Huff came to the plate for Columbus and quickly fell behind 0-2. He ended up forcing in what became the winning run with a walk, laying off four straight breaking pitches just below the strike zone. Quality AB.

3.   On Friday, the Cleveland Guardians called up yet another Clipper. Catcher Cooper Ingle, who has also played in the outfield and at first base, flew from Omaha to Cleveland to join the Big League club for the first time. He was 0-2 as the DH with a walk in his debut. The Guardians fell to Seattle 3-1. Also in the Cleveland lineup were Kahlil Watson and Petey Halpin, who also saw their first MLB action this season.

Columbus and Omaha play the fifth game of their six-game set Friday beginning at 7:05 p.m. EDT. RHP Austin Peterson (0-5, 4.30) will take the mound for the Clippers, while the Storm Chasers have yet to name a starter.
