The Columbus Crew dominated the action at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field Saturday and ended a five-game losing streak, topping the Colorado Rapids 3-0. It was the Black & Gold’s 400th MLS regular-season win, becoming the second club to reach that mark, joining the LA Galaxy. Here are our three takeaways from Saturday’s match:

1.    Newly-signed Santiago Rodríguez recorded the first goal of the night, his 25th MLS score, with a header from the top of the box after a Crew corner kick was rebounded his way. “I feel very happy about returning to MLS and to have a night like tonight, Rodríguez said after the match.. “It surprised me a bit because I travelled two days ago and being here with these great teammates and the staff at the club, it makes me extremely happy.” 

2.   The Crew’s other two goals came from Gonzalo Tapia in the 81st minute and home-grown Taha Habroune at the 90+4′ mark. Tapia and Habroune assisted on each other’s score. Habroune talked about whether he was devleoping a rapport with Tapia, ““I think so. We’ve had a couple moments in training and for us coming on together too, we kind of want to show everyone that we want to be on the field and that we should be on the field. And that’s what we did today.” 

3.  Goalkeeper Patrick Schulte earned his fourth clean sheet of the season. He has 24 career regular season shutouts, the fourth-most in Crew history, and 29 across all competitions. Midfielder Sean Zawadzki noted, “I want to give a shout out to [Patrick], to get a clean sheet. You know, it’s been a while. He’s worked tremendously hard for us, made some big-time saves, and I’m glad that we finally could repay him for a shutout tonight.”
