The Columbus Fury were in Grand Rapids Sunday for a match with the Rise. Grand Rapids won 28-26, 20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-9. The teams battled to five sets for the seventh-consecutive match in the series. Here are our three takeaways from the back-and-forth action:
1. The Fury’s record does not indicate the amount of the talent or compete they have as a team. They have solid leadership and experience. Perhaps they are just one or two players away from getting to the next level. Right now, the same names pop up at the top of the stats sheet. That makes sense for setters and liberos, but the Fury may need some help at the net. At least some depth up front.
2. The name at the top of the list on Sunday was once again Raina Terry. The Marengo native recorded her eighth double-double of the season with a team-high 18 kills and 11 digs. Veteran Megan Lush also posted a double-double with 16 kills and 19 assists. Setter Audrey Pak continues to impress. She dished out 40 assists and had 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.
3. When the Fury get back to Nationwide Arena next Sunday, folks should definitely come out and support this team, especially if they haven’t been to a match before. We don’t often plug a team or a particular game, but this team is close to climbing up a few rungs. And fans will definitely enjoy the action these fantastic athletes bring to the court!
