The Columbus Clippers scored early and often en route to a 9-4 win in their series finale with the Iowa Cubs Sunday at Prinicipal Park. The Clippers got a solid outing from starter Logan Allen and a stellar power display from Kahlil Watson who hit two long balls and knocked in six runs. Here are our three takeaways from Sunday’s game:

1.    Logan Allen had a great start Sunday, going 7.0 innings, giving up just one run. The left-hander allowed five hits and a walk, while striking out five. He is now 2-1 on the season with a 4.46 ERA. While he has had a couple of tough outings, he has demonstrated good control. In his 34.1 innings of work, he has recorded 41 strikouts vs. 17 walks. He spent all of 2025 with the Guardians. If he can work into the late innings, like Sunday, a trip back may be in the offing.

2.   While Kahlil Watson’s slugging was the headline, it was hard not to notice shortstop Angel Genao’s day. He posted three hits, including a double and a triple, to move his batting average up to .333 in his six games with the Clippers. The 21-year-old has committed a couple of errors in the infield but has also shown flashes of brilliant play. The upswing on his hitting stats has certainly been encouraging.

3.   Ryan Mitchell, the voice of the Clippers, noted on his broadcast Sunday that catcher Bo Naylor will not be with the Clippers for a while after his demotion from the Guardians this week. He is headed to the Guards’ Arizona facilities to get a reset (Ryan’s word) before jumping back into game situations. We’ll keep an eye on when Columbus fans can expect to see Naylor at Huntington Park.

The Clippers will travel to St. Paul, Minnesota Monday to prepare for a six-game series with the Saints beginning Tuesday. LHP Ryan Webb (0-3, 7.09) is scheduled to get the start for Columbus. The first pitch Tuesday is set for 7:37 p.m. EDT.
