It has been a challenging season for the Ohio State field hockey team. Coming into their match at Delaware (4-6) Sunday, all five of the Buckeyes’ losses were by one goal, one in overtime and two in double overtime. On Sunday at Rullo Stadium, the Bucks dominated play to beat the Blue Hens, 4-0.
Ohio State (4-5) scored twice in the second quarter and twice in the third quarter. Just over four minutes into the second, Loryn Jordan got the Buckeyes on the board with her second goal of the season. Lindsey Roberts recorded the assist.
Eight minutes later, Makenna Webster scored the first of her two unassisted goals to put OSU up 2-0 at the half. With 11:36 left in the third quarter, Raleigh Kerst scored on a pass from Webster. It was Kerst’s second goal of the season.
Webster rounded out the scoring on a penalty shot less than four minutes later. The St. Louis native now leads the team with 14 goals and four assists. Goaltender Maddie Stevens made three saves to pick up her second shutout and fourth win.
The Buckeyes return home for two Big Ten matches next weekend. They host the Maryland Terrapins (6-3) Friday at 3:00 p.m. and the Penn State Nittany Lions (5-4) Sunday at noon. Friday’s match can be seen on the Big Ten Network with Sunday’s tilt on Big Ten+.
