Ohio State grad student Makenna Webster has had a huge impact on the Buckeyes’ field hockey and ice hockey teams. The Wisconsin transfer is in her last go-round with field hockey after finishing up on the ice last season. On Friday, she had a hat trick plus one in OSU’s opening game of the campaign, a 7-0 home win over Ball State.
The Buckeyes (1-0) scored in each of the game’s four quarters. Senior Zella Bailey got the scoring started with a goal just three minutes into the contest. Senior Loryn Jordon added a second goal toward the end of the first quarter. Webster scored the first of her goals in the second frame followed by one from freshman Raleigh Kerst.
Webster would go on to record all three second-half goals. Four goals in a game is a career-high for the St. Louis native. She now has 40 goals in her Ohio State run. Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Stevens picked up the win, the first shutout of her career. She needed only one save to blank the Cardinals (0-1).
Ohio State is right back at it with a home game against Kent State (1-0) Sunday at Buckeye Varsity Field beginning at 1:00 p.m. Kent State beat Mercyhurst, 10-1, in their opener Friday. Fans can see the game on the Big Ten+ Network.
