The Ohio State baseball team (8-17) had two early leads in their non-conference home tilt Tuesday with West Virginia (23-4), 1-0 and 2-1, but the Mountaineers scored seven runs in the next three innings to take a commanding lead at Bill Davis Stadium and go on to win, 9-6.
Sophomore Lee Ellis and junior Matthew Graveline hit solo home runs for the Buckeyes, while freshman Sal Mineo knocked in two runs. Reliever Douglas Bauer, a junior, finished the game for Ohio State, going two scoreless innings without giving up a hit and striking out four.
The Buckeyes head to Southern California for a weekend series with the USC Trojans (16-11). The teams will play three single games – Friday (9:30 p.m.), Saturday (5:00 p.m.), and Sunday (4:00 p.m.)
